The Chengannur – Mavelikkara Diocese has evolved over a period since 1994 going through different phases of expansion and consolidation. The latest one was on the 1st of April 2005 when the Mavelikkara and Karthikapally Centres were added to the already existing Thumpamon Diocese. Now the Chengannur – Mavelikkara Diocese includes Chengannur, Edyaranmula, Ummayattukkara, Elanthoor and Thumpamon Centres.
His Grace the Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan has ably led Chengannur – Mavelikara Diocese since 1st August, 2007. Thirumeni’s rich and varied experience as Bishop for the past 27 years is indeed a blessing for the development of this Diocese. Within a span of two years Thirumeni has been able to inspire a new energy in the parishes and the organizations, mission fields and projects. New avenues of Christian Mission and responsibility were identified as a response to the needs of the people he came into contact with. The Vision to Care and respond to the needy has initiated many new programmes touching the lives of many in this Diocese
