rinity Mar Thoma Church was established in the year 1974 with few families. In April 1974, His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Episcopa visited Houston and conducted a prayer meeting. In that meeting Thirumeni encouraged the Marthomites to continue to meet regularly for worship and prayer. This was the humble begining of the Mar Thoma Church in Houston.
The first Holy Communion was celebrated on September 29, 1974 by Rev. T.I. Joseph. In September 1975, Rev. T.J. Thomas came to Dallas for higher studies and he conducted services once in a month in Houston. We had 28 families that time and on October 19, 1975, we became a Congregation and the first Managing Committee was elected. The general body meeting held on January 25, 1976 named our Congregation as “Mar Thoma Syrian Church of India, Houston”, and the membership had grown to 43 families. We were approved as a Congregation by the Episcopal Synod in March 1978. We bought 5 acres of land at 5810 Almeda Genoa Road in 1982. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan, the Diocesan Bishop laid the foundation stone for our Church on August 29, 1982. The new Church was dedicated by Thomas Thirumeni on July 14, 1984 and Thirumeni changed the name to “Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston” at that time.

Trinity Mar Thoma Church is part of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of India, and it’s headquarters is at Tiruvalla, Kerala State, India. Currently we have Nine Bishops. The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan and The Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma is the Metropolitan since Ocober 2, 2007. We are part of the Diocese of North America and Europe, and it’s headquarters at 2320 South Merrick Avenue, Merrick, New York. Our Diocesan Bishop is The Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa.During the last 35 years, we were able to host Two National Mar Thoma Family Conferences (1988 & 1999), Three National Youth Conferences (1991, 2000 & 2007), Two Diocesan Assembly meetings (July 19-21, 1988 and May 17, 18 – 2002) and two clergy meetings (1999 & 2009). We are very happy to report that Trinity Mar Thoma Church is the first Mar Thoma Church built in North America and Europe in 1984. Let us look back with grateful heart and thank God for His guidance and blessings during these years.
