At the request of the Knanaya Catholic Community living in New Jersey and surrounding area, Rev. Fr. Joseph Saurianmakil started Holy Mass in Syro-Malabar Rite from fourth Sunday of October 1993. At the beginning, people from Rockland area also were participating in the Holy Mass here. However, at the request of the people there, Rockland Knanaya Catholic Mission was started later. From January 1999 onwards Rev. Fr. Michael Nedumthuruthil was the Director of New Jersey Knanaya Catholic Mission. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr. Thomas Animmoottil as the director of the mission with effect from January 15, 2005. Rev. Fr. Thomas Pralel was appointed as the mission director and Rev. Fr. James Ponganayil as the associate director with effect from August 17, 2008 replacing Fr. Animoottil. Rev. Fr. James Ponganayil became the mission director with effect from January 01, 2009. Fr. Jose Tharackal became the mission director from October 23, 2009. Fr. Renny Kattel is taking care of the pastoral needs of this mission.

The mission bought a church at Carterest, New Jersey in 2018. The church was blessed and the mission was officially established on Saturday, September 15, 2018 by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, and Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt. Fr. Renny Kattel was appointed as the first pastor of the parish on the same day to August 18, 2020. Fr. Bins Chethalil is the present pastor from August 18, 2020.
