Our Vicar, Rev. Fr. George Abraham, decided to relocate his family from Staten Island, New York to Tampa in 1988, and in the same year, he organized a church in Tampa. Our first Sunday Service began at Orange River Estate clubhouse, in Temple Terrace. Later, he decided to move to the Episcopal Chapel at the University of South Florida. Our first Archbishop, Late Lamented, His Eminence Mor Athanasius Yeshue Smauel even visited us and blessed our service.

Our Church was incorporated in 1988, under the name of Mar Gregorios Syrian Orthodox Church and dedicated to Mor Gregorios of Parumala with affiliation to the Syrian Orthodox Church of North America.

On February 7, 1991, the church bought a small house and approximately two acres of land. The congregation converted the house into a beautiful chapel and regular service was conducted every Sunday since. Under Rev. Fr. George Abraham's persistent dedication, the church secured financial contributions from church members and other friends in the Tampa Bay area and other States.

Eventually, our church membership increased and the old building had inadequate spacing. In 2004, the members of the church were finally able to build the church our Vicar had envisioned with five Alters. The main Alter is in the name of Mor Gregorios of Malankara, the second Alter is in the name of St. Mary the mother of our Lord, the third Alter is in the name of St. George (the martyr), the fourth Alter is named after Patriarch St. Ignatius Elias III and the final Alter was dedicated to St. Basalios Eldo.
