In February 1972, during the visit of Late Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Episcopa, the idea of forming a Mar Thoma Prayer group was conceived.
On 22nd September 1972 the Oman Mar Thoma Prayer Group was formed with 17 members under the leadership of late Rev. M M Thomas, the then Vicar of Dubai Parish status by a Kalpana dated 6th March 1975 from the then Suffragan Metropolitian, late Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma.
Mar Thoma Churh in Oman being the integral part of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, traditionally beleived to have been found by St.Thomas (Mar Thoma) one of the 12 desiples of Jesus Christ, and known by the name of the Apostle, in the year AD 52, having its Head Quarters at SCS Campus, Tiruvalla, Kerala, India accepts as its goal and function.
To be the repository of the divine doctrines revealed by Jesus Christ and proclained by His Apostles
To maintain these doctrines in their purity
To Promote the spiritual life of its members through the administration of sacraments and by the ministry of the WORD
To make disciples of all nations by the procalamation of the Gospel to all the world, and through the administration of Holy Baptism in the name of the Triune God
