Malayankulam was one of the substations of Nanguneri Mission. In the year 2000 it was made into a separate parish by Bishop Peter Fdo. Rev. Fr. Jerosin A. Kattar was the first parish priest of Malayankulam. Then it was handed over to (Divine Word Society) SVD Fathers. A new Presbytery was put up and the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows was renovated by Rev. Fr. Jerosin A. Kattar. It is a pilgrim centre. From 2010 onwards the diocese has taken over the parish from the SVD Fathers.
