Keezha Eral was a mission substation and the diocese was taking a special care of the mission in view of making it into a parish. When the Salesians of Don Bosco offered their service for one more parish apart from Vilathikulam, Keezha Eral was entrusted to their care and was bifurcated from Vilathikulam Mission and was made a separate parish on 06.08.2000 by Bishop Peter Fernando. Rev. Fr. Rosario Peeris was the first parish priest. When it was a substation there was a Church in the midst of the village dedicated to St. Sebastian. The new Church near the highway side was built by Rev. Fr. Jerald Britto and was blessed on 21.06.2007 by Bishop Yvon Ambroise. There is no presbytery as such. The parish priest is staying at the community college premises.
