Eral, St. Joseph parish was bifurcated from Pazhayakayal parish and was made a new parish on 30th November 1977 by Bishop Ambrose Mathalaimuthu. The first parish priest was Rev. Fr. G. Oswald Fernando and he built the presbytery which was blessed on 30.11.1977. The Church was renovated by Fr. G. Oswald Fernando on 10.07.1980.
