Pathinathapuram was a substation of Vadakkankulam Mission for a long period. The village was named after Fr. Pathinather who was parish priest of Vadakankulam. It was bifurcated from Vadakkankulam on 22nd May 2002 by Bishop Peter Fernando and it was made into a separate parish. Rev. Fr. Victor Solomon was appointed as the first parish priest. The existing presbytery was built by Rev. Fr. Theophilus, when he was the parish priest of Vadakkankulam. It was blessed by Bishop Peter Fernando on 22nd May 2002.
