According Madurai Mission history, Rev. Fr. Maenjalae, who was missionary at Sokkankudiyiruppu for a long period, stayed for some time at Thisayanvilai around 1883. We come to know that the Holy Redeemers Church was built by the Jesuit Missionaries. Thisayanvilai was a substation of Kootapanai and in 1970 it was elevated into a separate parish. Rev. Fr. G. Sekaran built the presbytery which was blessed on 16th June 2000 by Bishop Peter Fernando.
