St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church , Dandeli

From 1980s Orthodox worship started in Dandeli. In 1983 a suitable plot of land was obtained from the Government, but the same was lost because a church could not be constucted in time. In 1994 Rev. Fr. Jose Chummun was appointed as the Vicar ofst. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church, Dandeli, of Bombay Diocese. Because of the hard work of the members and the effective leadership of the Vicar, the church got about 7 cents of land in the heat of the city from the Government The church consisting of only 11 families with the help of the Diocese constructed a Church building very soon. Rev. Fr. T. U. Thomas, Rev. Fr. Jinesh Varkey. Rev Fr. Geevarghese Kadavil and Rev. Fr Sam Ommen, Fr Siby Babu also served this church as Vicars. The present Vicar is Rev. Fr.
