Draksharama and the surrounding villages belonged to Yanam Mission and they got the light of Faith through Fr. Mathai Mappilakunnel. The land was bought in 1974 and the Church and the Presbytery were built and in 1976 and it was made an autonomous parish.
The co-worker of Fr Mathai at Yanam, Fr. Maipan Paul was made the first parish priest of Draksharama. Under his able guidance the Mission progressed and with his medical mission he could do immense good for the village folk. The fathers who succeded him did a tremendous job in and around the villages preaching the Good News.
