Rev Dr Frederick Eluvathingal (Fr Fredy) Vicar of St Thomas Syro malabr Parish, Melbourne South east, belongs to the Archdiocese of Thrissur. Ordained in 1982 by Archbishop Joseph Kundukulam he has been in active ministry in varying apostolates of the church. He holds MTh (Master of Theology) from Pune, LSS (Licentiate in Sacred Scripture) from Rome and DSS (Doctorate in Sacred Scripture) from Jerusalem. He has been a pastor in parishes, professor in Seminaries, and director of various associations and commissions in the Archdiocese of Thrissur. He has also served the Kerala church as secretary to the Bible commission of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC). He has been involved in revising a Malayalam translation of the Bible and the publication of a Malayalam Bible Encyclopaedia.


As professor and student of the Bible Fr Fredy is proficient in different languages, ancient as well as modern, Indian as well as European. He considers it a rare privilege to have done research towards doctorate in Scripture in Jerusalem itself. Fr Fredy Eluvathingal began leading Adelaide’s Syro-Malabar community after arriving in Adelaide in May 2013. From April 2018 onwards he is serving as vicar of our Parish.
