The WPA story : Malayalam Christian Pentecostal Church of the DC, Maryland, Virginia region
Washington Pentecostal Assembly (WPA) has served the DC-Maryland-Northern Virginia area since 1991. It was the first Malayalee based Pentecostal church fellowship in the Maryland, DC area. The church had its modest beginnings by getting together at believer’s residences, community halls and conference rooms. Dr. George Kurian led the congregation initially, after which Pr. Sunny Samuel was appointed as WPA’s full time Pastor and President.
In 1998, almost 7 years after its inception, WPA was able to purchase its own church facility. Since that purchase the meetings of the church have been held at the facility located at 230 Awkard Lane, Silver Spring, MD 20905. Membership at WPA has grown with new souls being baptized and new families relocating to the area. Meetings led by the Holy Spirit include Sunday worship, Bible study, PYPA and Sunday school sessions, which are held at this church.
Our adult members and children of WPA are active members of IPC Eastern Region and have received numerous awards for their excellence. Currently, Pr. Finney Varkey leads the congregation at WPA with the guidance of the spirit. Prior men of God who pastored at WPA were Pastor Sunny Samuel, Pastor Varghese Kurian and Pastor P.C. Varghese.
