During the 1980s, members who belonged to Orthodox Church migrated to Udhna, an industrial belt situated near Surat City of Gujarat State on the lookout for job opportunities. In the beginning there was no place of worship or organized form of fellowship for them. But later few of them used to go to Orthodox Church at Surat which was in Dumas. Due to financial limitations, long distance and lack of transportation facilities, many could not attend the worship on a regular basis. Later the deprived group decided to start a prayer meeting group to solve their problem. Thus about 50 families belonging to the Mar Baselios Orthodox Church Surat, started a prayer group at Udhna in the name of St. George. As the time passed, the group, feeling the need of a worship centre, approached Vey Rev. E. G. Kuriakose Cor Episcopa at Baroda in the year 1990, and he agreed to conduct Holy Qurbana once a month. The members approached the CNI Church at Surat for permission of conducting Holy Qurbana at their Church Building which was readily agreed upon. The first Holy Qurbana was celebrated in the year 1991 and it continued up till 2002. But due to several reasons it could not be sustained. In the year 1992, Rev. Fr. Daniel (Vicar at Surat Orthodox Church), re-organized the congregation and informed Bombay Diocese.
